Conceived for a 140-year-old Kyoto townhouse, the project relocates the traditional tokonoma and hanging scroll from the guestroom into the garden, visible from both the lounge and the street. A tiered floor creates continuity between interior and garden. Guided by the philosophy of Destructive Elegance, the design reimagines a private ritual as a shared architectural experience, bringing openness and restraint to Japanese tradition.
